Presents for neighboors and friends

I had cute ideas for this year, that do not cost a lot and are cute and fun.
I made this Pumpkin Jam (like butter). Then put it in small jars with a circle piece of fabric, ruban and small tree ornaments. With the cookies in the jar i did the same. I am sure you have some empty jars in your closet you forgot about! like me.

Pumpkin Jam

3 1/2 cups pumpkin puree
4 1/2 cups white sugar
1 Tablespoon pumkin pie spice
1 (.25 ounce) envelope unflavored gelatin

in a saucepan, combine pumpkin, sugar, pumpkin pie spice and gelatin, mix well.
On medium heat bring to boil, then stir constantly for 5 minutes.
Spoon hot stuff in jars and screw metal lids.
About 4 small jars.

Here is another idea with jars:

Butterscotch chip cookies in a jar

1 1/8 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup flaked coconut
1 cup rice crispies
3/4 cup butterscoch chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans

layer in jars, firmly pack each ingredients. close, put fabric, ruban and tag.

Directions:
empty jar in mixing bowl add 1/2 cup melted, but not hot melted butter, 1 egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Use hands and mix. make walnut sizes balls. cook on cookie sheet for 8- 10 minutes at 350.

Gingerbread houses and recipie.

Today was the big construction.
Here is the best recipe i have so far.
Gingerbread men and house:

5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
5 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 cup molasses
2 eggs.

Beat butter, brown sugar, molasses and eggs. beat in dry ingredients. Separate dough in 3 parts, refrigerate for 1 1/2 hour. make gingerbread men 1/4 thick, bake for 11 to 13 minutes at 350 F. For the house cook longer but don't burn.

Great for Gingerbread houses, next year i will make thinner walls.

Festival of trees

What do you do when your neighbors want to see your house for a Festival of trees activity and you are broke?
Well you use everything you have in the house. Then you take the stuff you never used for the brand new house back to home depot and lowes and....surprise they have Christmas decor!!. So... i got ornaments for the candy cane tree, red bows, whitebows. Ornaments for the blue tree. A small black spruce. A topiary for the nativity tree that i will use all year round...And with the cash i got back ? a great Christmas present for my husband.
I always find a way...

Here is my design blog, i gave it to the whole ward so they can get ideas, i don't like wasting paper so i thought i would make a blog with all my ideas and tips unstead of a handout.
